RUAS are proud to have recently collaborated with DJI Enterprise and Heliguy to produce an article offering a comprehensive understanding of the benefits of drone inspections in specific sectors.

The article relates to why drone inspections are essential for maintenance across several industries.

RUAS Commercial Operations team were able to give a first-hand account of their experience flying a DJI M210 RTK V2 to provide a reliable and effective means of asset and platform data capture of an offshore platform in Denmark.

This negated the requirement of sending a rope access team down over the platform edge.

Drone Inspection – Key Focus

The articles key focus is on the top causes of drone for inspections, spanning various relevant sectors that have saved millions in transitioning from traditional manned inspection to utilising drones for inspection purposes.

Sectors include agriculture, architecture, engineering and construction, oil and gas and even mining.

It looks at the integration of multispectral drones to facilitate precision agriculture activities as well as drone inspections of chemical sites to expedite interventions in the case of dangerous leaks that pose a serious risk for people and the environment.

Advantages and disadvantages

The article explores the advantages and disadvantages of in-house and outsourced drone inspection.

“An outsourced drone-inspection team’s primary focus is on drone operations and the legislation as well as keeping the equipment well maintained and up to date with the latest firmware,” says Harris.

“They will also have experience in working in a number of environments all of which pose their own challenges: for example, flying in the middle of London may require you to obtain authorisation from the Air Traffic Control, Police and the Parliamentary Diplomatic Protection Group,” he adds.
